Top 100 BABY GIRL NAMES

The Social Security Administration’s Office has already published the top 100 baby girl names for 2007. Judging by the results, it would seem that people are very fond of biblical names, seeing as to how a large number of top ranking names in the top 100 baby girl names have biblical origins. However, the biblical names are not as dominant in the baby girl lists as it is in the baby boy names list.

As opposed to the boys name list, the first spot in the top 100 baby girl names isn’t biblical in origin. Ranked 1st, Emma is of French origin and the biblical theme does not show itself until the 4th spot, which is occupied by Isabella, a Hebrew name that means ‘Devoted to God’. Next is the name Ava, which means Iniquity, followed by the still bible-themed Abigail, which means ‘The Father’s Joy’. The 8th and 9th places still have biblical overtones, seeing as to how Hannah is a Hebrew name that means Gracious, while Samantha, the 9th top name, is Aramaic for ‘Listener’.

Based on the results of the top 100 baby girl names from the previous years, it would seem that girl names are bound to follow trends with boy names, but at a much slower pace. Seeing as to how boys name’s are currently dominated by biblical names, it is no wonder that these types of names are starting to gain good spots at the top 100 baby girl names, and shows no sign of slowing down.
